(This is Part 2 of a free series to support you during this COVID-19 period)
Travel in the outer world might be limited right now, but your inner world awaits. It’s time to take the journey you’ve likely been avoiding… It’s time to explore what’s going on within your heart and your body.
We have been given time and space to slow down, to pause, to reset.
This is a period in which we can begin (or continue) to heal.
Stillness, slowness, silence and introspection is ripe with opportunity.
In silence, the voice of your intuition can take the stage.
In stillness, your soul has space to speak.

So, welcome aboard this flight to a more connected, grounded, wiser you. Here are some travel tips for your journey:
It’s normal for the idea of ‘looking inward’ to feel scary
Most of us weren’t taught the importance of ‘inner work’, growing up.
If we’re honest, we’re a bit afraid of finding out who we really are. We’re afraid of knowing what’s going on inside of us.
We function in a state of disconnection and avoidance, staying busy and making little time for ourselves. Thinking about looking at all the ‘stuff’ that we’ve skillfully suppressed and ignored for years can feel terrifying.
Know that it is safe to just be; to stop the cycle of distraction through busy-ness. You are a human being. You don’t need to be a human doing.
Yes, committing to doing ‘the inner work’ takes courage. It’s confronting and at times it’s not fun.
But I promise it won’t be as bad as you’re worried it will be. And the pay-off is better than anything you can imagine.
2. What you feel, you can heal
Suppressing emotions does not mean they disappear. It means they stay stuck within the energetic and the physical body.
In my healing work (such as 1:1 Reiki sessions and readings) I see that experiences and emotions that haven’t been processed fully are present in someone’s energy field. Even seemingly mild incidents as a child are retained if they had an emotional impact that wasn’t processed in a healthy way. I am constantly amazed at how much is held within our bodies!
It’s vital to release stress and emotion; to allow whatever you’re feeling and to express it in some way.
Make some time to be alone in silence. Tune into your body. Ask, “what am I feeling?”. What comes to your attention? Is it anger? Is it fear? Grief? Heartache? Anxiety? Give yourself permission to feel whatever arises, without trying to rationalise it or explain it away.
Scribble a ‘rage page’ in a journal, let that anger out.
Curl up in bed and sob. Let that sorrow out.
Walk, run, dance, stretch. Move your body, shake what you’re feeling out.
3. You deserve love, kindness and acceptance from yourself
We can be our own worst enemies. We judge and criticise ourselves in ways we would never treat others.
You are a beautiful gift to this world. A child of god, here for a reason. You belong. You matter.
It’s time to honour yourself with forgiveness, compassion and love.
Stretch your arms around yourself, and give yourself a long hug.
Read a book or watch a movie that has pleasant memories associated with it for you.
Honour your body with self-touch and a gentle massage.
Spend some time in meditation.
Write a list of your unique, wonderful, ‘superhero strengths’ (this is an exercise that we do in ‘Release and Rise: Transform Your Trauma’). Put aside any shame or embarrassment you might feel. You’re not being arrogant or self-absorbed; and you’re not gloating or showing off. You’re simply acknowledging some of your many gifts and your strengths, shifting your focus from the perceived shortcomings your mind might be fixated on. Perhaps you’re great at knitting? Don’t just write down, ‘I’m good at knitting’… Explore it! Celebrate it! You are AMAZING and you can feel so proud of that. ‘I am a knitting superstar! I create beautiful woollen pieces with ease and joy and love. Knitting lights me up and that passion means everything I knit has such wonderful energy!’ Challenge yourself to write down at least ten strengths. Then put the list somewhere that you’ll see it regularly.
Nourish your body with fresh foods, water and rest.
Draw, paint, create, play, dance.
Choose positive social media and news content. You can be informed without being inundated.
Ask for help and support when you need it.
Connect with younger you; with the child who is still inside you. What does she truly want, need, dream of, desire?
Think about what makes you feel great, and bring more of that into your life.
You deserve love today and everyday.
